What is stress management?
Stress management encompasses techniques intended to equip a person with effective coping mechanisms for dealing with psychological stress. As we mature, we develop coping mechanisms to deal with daily stress but for some individuals, stress can be psychologically draining which can affect their daily lives. Stress is a person's physiological response to an external stimulus that triggers the "fight-or-flight" reaction.Many things can trigger the stress reaction, including danger, threat, news, illness, as well as significant changes in one's life such as the death of a loved one. Stress management gives us the tools to deal with all types of stress which can cause negative affects to our health.
Stress is a state of threatened homeostasis caused by intrinsic or extrinsic adverse forces and is counteracted by an intricate repertoire of physiologic and behavioral responses aiming to maintain/reestablish the optimal body equilibrium. Some people can gain or lose weight. Hyper tension and diabetes are also some of the health problems that can arise from stress. Because of stress, a lot of health issues can arise and it can be trivial problems such as pimples to extreme health issues such as cancer. Stress can also cause people to create bad habits such as smoking or drinking in order to cope with the stress which in turn can cause a lot of health and personal issues.
A therapist or psychiatrist can help diagnose the type of stress the individual is experiencing. Talking to a therapist or psychiatrist will help figure out the root of the problem and the possible approaches of ridding the stress.
